Walt Terrell for Howard Johnson
Date: December 7, 1984
Team: Detroit Tigers
Sent: Walt Terrell
Received: Howard Johnson
Walt Terrell has the unique distinction in having been involved in two of the best trades in Mets history. He was acquired with Ron Darling for Lee Mazzilli. Terrell gave the Mets two strong seasons before being sent to Detroit for Howard Johnson. Johnson had eight strong seasons with the Mets, hitting 192 home runs and stealing 202 bases. HoJo played a role in the Mets 1986 championship season, started on the All Star team in 1989, and led the league in homers in 1991. Terrell had three good seasons for the Tigers before getting hurt, and struggling for the remainder of his career.
