The Mets and Royals made a trade of outfielders in the winter of 1994. Vince Coleman went to Kansas City in exchange for Kevin McReynolds. A nine-year major league veteran, Coleman had spent the last three seasons with the Mets. He had 99 stolen bases and a .270 batting average with the team. McReynolds was a former Mets player who had played the two previous seasons with the Royals.
In his return to New York, McReynolds played 51 games for the Mets. He batted .256 with four home runs in the strike-shortened '94 season, his last in the major leagues.
