The Mets and Phillies got together for a trade of four pitchers during the 2001 season. Turk Wendell and Dennis Cook went to Philadelphia in exchange for Bruce Chen and Adam Walker. Wendell and Cook were veteran relievers who were part of the Mets' Wild Card teams of 1999 and 2000. Each pitched in the post-season for the team. Chen was in his fourth season of major league ball while Walker was at the Double-A level.

Chen appeared in 11 games for the Mets over the rest of the 2001 season. He had a 3-2 won-lost record and a 4.68 earned run average. After pitching in one game with the team in 2002, Bruce was dealt to the Expos in a six-player trade. Walker pitched in 13 games in the Mets' system over three seasons and never reached the major leagues.

Wendell pitched in 77 games over two seasons with the Phillies. He had 3 wins and 5 losses with a 4.18 ERA with the Philadelphia team. Cook pitched nine and two-thirds innings for the Phils in '01. He joined the Angels as a free agent after the season.
