Jose Reyes hit a double against Marlins’ starter Byung-Hyun Kim to lead off the top of the first. Reyes advanced to third base on Luis Castillo’s sacrifice bunt and came home on a single by David Wright. Carlos Beltran went down on strikes and Moises Alou reached on an error by shortstop Hanley Ramirez. Wright scored on the miscue for a 2-0 Mets lead. Kim retired Carlos Delgado on a fly ball to left fielder Todd Linden for the third out. Perez then set down the side in order in the bottom half.

After scoreless second and third innings, Beltran drew a walk to begin the top of the fourth. Alou flied out to center fielder Brett Carroll and a strikeout of Delgado ensued. Shawn Green was hit by a pitch and Castro homered to increase the Mets’ lead to 5-0. Perez popped out to Ramirez to end the inning and Dan Uggla doubled to open the bottom half. Uggla moved to third base after Jeremy Hermida’s fly out to left fielder Alou and scored on Miguel Cabrera’s sacrifice fly. Perez then got Mike Jacobs to pop-out to shortstop Reyes and finish off the inning.

Kim hurled a perfect top of the fifth. Perez shut down the Fish in the bottom half and Beltran hit a leadoff single against Florida reliever Logan Kensing in the top of the sixth. Alou and Delgado were retired on outfield fly balls and Green singled to center field. Castro drew a walk that loaded the bases and Kensing fanned Perez for the inning’s final out. Oliver then yielded only a single to Ramirez in the bottom half.

Wright hit a two-out single against Kensing in the top of the seventh. David stole second base and Beltran was given an intentional walk. Alou was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Delgado followed with a walk against Marlins’ reliever Taylor Tankersley to force home Wright and increase the Mets’ lead to 6-1. Tankersley retired Green on an inning-ending fly ball to Carroll. Perez then set down the side 1-2-3 in the bottom half.

Castro singled against Fish reliever Ross Wolf to begin the top of the eighth. Ramon moved to second base on Perez’s sacrifice bunt and to third on Reyes’ ground out to second baseman Uggla. Castillo hit a single to bring home Castro for a 7-1 Mets lead. Wright singled and Wolf threw a called third strike past Beltran to close out the inning. Carroll doubled to open the bottom half. Pinch-hitter Robert Andino was retired on a fly ball to center fielder Endy Chavez. Ramirez grounded out to Reyes and a single by Uggla followed. On the hit, Alou made an error that allowed Carroll to score the Marlins’ second run. Perez then got Hermida to fly out to right fielder Green and end the inning.

Florida reliever Marcos Carvajal pitched a scoreless top of the ninth. The Mets’ Aaron Heilman retired Cabrera on a fly ball to Chavez to start the bottom half. Jacobs doubled and Linden went down on strikes. Matt Treanor then grounded back to Heilman to bring the game to an end. The Mets had a solid victory.
