The Mets faced the Marlins on a Sunday afternoon at Citi Field. The teams played the finale of a four-game series. A single by Travis d'Arnaud in the 12th inning gave the Mets a 1-0 win over Miami.

Dillon Gee and the Marlins’ Tom Koehler each pitched scoreless ball from the first inning to the seventh. Gee scattered six hits and recorded eight strikeouts while Koehler held the Mets to a pair of singles (to Gee and Daniel Murphy) and a ground-rule double by Eric Young. Chris Coghlan drew a walk against Gee to lead off the top of the eighth. Donovan Solano’s sacrifice bunt moved Coghlan to second base and Mets’ reliever Pedro Feliciano retired Christian Yelich on a fly ball to center fielder Matt den Dekker. Giancarlo Stanton was walked intentionally and New York’s Scott Atchison got Justin Ruggiano to hit a force play ground ball to shortstop Ruben Tejada that ended the inning. Koehler then set down the Mets in order in the bottom half.

Logan Morrison singled against Mets’ reliever LaTroy Hawkins to begin the top of the ninth. On his own hit, Morrison advanced to second base via a throwing error by second baseman Murphy. Ed Lucas followed with a ground ball on which Murphy threw to third baseman Wilmer Flores for an out on pinch-runner Adeiny Hechavarria. On Koyie Hill’s ensuing grounder, Murphy mishandled Flores’s throw on a force play attempt. Hawkins got pinch-hitter Greg Dobbs to pop out to Flores and retired Coghlan on an inning-ending ground ball to Murphy. Miami reliever A. J. Ramos then pitched a perfect bottom half to send the game onward.

Mets’ reliever Gonzalez Germen set down the side in order in the top of the 10th. Flores hit a two-out single against the Marlins’ Mike Dunn in the bottom of the inning. Dunn fanned Andrew Brown for the inning’s third out and Germen struck out the side in a scoreless top of the 11th. Leading off the bottom half, d’Arnaud singled off Fish reliever Chad Qualls. Travis advanced to second base on Tejada’s sacrifice bunt and to third on pinch-hitter Josh Satin’s ground out to second baseman Solano. Qualls struck out Young to finish off the inning. Mets’ reliever Vic Black then hurled a perfect top of the 12th.

Juan Lagares drew a walk against Miami reliever Zach Phillips to open the bottom of the 12th inning. Murphy singled to send Lagares to third base and a walk to Lucas Duda loaded the bases. Facing the Marlins’ Ryan Webb, pinch-hitter Zach Lutz hit a ground ball on which third baseman Placido Polanco threw to catcher Hill for an out at home on Lagares. Brown followed with a grounder on which first baseman Lucas threw to Hill to get Murphy at the plate. D’Arnaud came to bat and delivered a single that brought home Duda with the winning run. The Mets had an extra-inning victory to close out the series.
