Nunez got a one-out single in the bottom half. Martinez then got Pujols on a ground ball to second baseman Matsui for an inning-ending double play.

Reyes hit a triple and came home on Matsui’s sacrifice fly to open the top of the seventh. Beltran homered to increase the Mets’ lead to 4-0. St. Louis reliever Cal Eldred came in to pitch and struck out Wright. Anderson singled and Victor Diaz grounded to Eldred for the third out. Martinez set down the Redbirds 1-2-3 in the bottom half. Eldred then pitched a scoreless top of the eighth.

Jacobs then popped out to shortstop Luna to end the inning.
