Randy Johnson for Bill Haselrig
Date: July 1, 1980
Team: Atlanta Braves
Sent: Randy Johnson
Received: Bill Haselrig
The Mets and Braves made a deal of minor leaguers during the 1980 season. Infielder Randy Johnson was sent to the Atlanta organization in exchange for outfielder Bill Haselrig. Both Johnson and Haselrig were playing at the AA level at the time of the trade.
The transaction was not a productive one for the Mets. Haselrig spent two seasons in the team's minor league system and never appeared in a major league game. He concluded his career with AAA-level Tidewater in Norfolk, Virginia in 1981.
Johnson did reach the majors with the Braves. From 1982 to 1984, he hit .267 in 204 games as a member of the Atlanta team. Johnson had 6 home runs and 53 RBIs during his three-year major league career.
