In their quest for a National League East Division title in 1990, the Mets made a deal with the Astros to enhance their bullpen strength. Lefthander Dan Schatzeder was acquired for pitcher Steve LaRose and first baseman Nick Davis. Schatzeder was a 14-year major league veteran who had pitched for seven different teams during his career. LaRose and Davis were minor league prospects.
Schatzeder pitched a total of five and two-thirds innings in six games for the Mets. He had neither a win nor a save during the '90 stretch drive. The Mets fell short of a division title and Dan joined the Kansas City Royals after the season. LaRose and Davis never reached the major leagues.
