After a scoreless first inning, Braves’ starter Javier Vazquez retired the side in order in the top of the second. Jeff Francoeur singled against the Mets’ John Maine to lead off the bottom half. Brandon Jones and David Ross drew consecutive walks to load the bases and Jordan Schafer went down on strikes. Vazquez hit a force play ground ball to shortstop Jose Reyes to drive home Francoeur. On the play, second baseman Luis Castillo made an error that allowed Brandon Jones to score. Kelly Johnson walked and Yunel Escobar singled to bring home Vazquez for a 3-0 Atlanta lead. Maine then retired Chipper Jones on a fly ball to left fielder Daniel Murphy for the inning’s third out.

Vazquez and Maine each pitched scoreless ball from the third inning to the fifth. Murphy hit a single to begin the top of the sixth. Beltran slugged a home run and Carlos Delgado singled to left field. Wright followed with a homer to put the Mets ahead, 4-3. Ryan Church was struck out and Ramon Castro popped out to catcher Ross. Castillo grounded back to Vazquez for the final out of the inning. Maine then shut down the Braves in the bottom half.

Pinch-hitter Alex Cora singled to open the top of the seventh. Reyes bunted back to Vazquez for a force play and Murphy flied out to center fielder Schafer. Beltran connected for his second home run of the game to increase the Mets’ lead to 6-3. Atlanta reliever Eric O’Flaherty retired Delgado on an inning-ending ground ball to second baseman Johnson. New York’s Bobby Parnell then hurled a scoreless bottom half.

Braves’ reliever Peter Moylan set down the side 1-2-3 in the top of the eighth. Leading off the bottom of the inning, Chipper Jones homered against the Mets’ J. J. Putz. Casey Kotchman grounded out to Reyes and a strikeout of Francoeur ensued. Brandon Jones hit a single and Putz fanned Ross to end the inning. Atlanta’s Jeff Bennett then pitched a scoreless top of the ninth.

Mets’ reliever Francisco Rodriguez struck out Schafer to start the bottom of the ninth inning. Pinch-hitter Omar Infante was retired on a pop-up to Reyes. Rodriguez then got Johnson to fly out to center fielder Beltran and bring the game to an end. The Mets had a comeback victory.
