Dickey gave up only a single to Yonder Alonzo in the top of the first inning. David Wright drew a two-out walk against Padres' starter Edinson Volquez in the bottom half. Wright stole second base and moved to third on a wild pitch as Lucas Duda walked. Daniel Murphy followed with a single that scored Wright for a 1-0 Mets lead. Volquez then struck out Ike Davis to end the inning.

Dickey yielded just a single to Nick Hundley in the top of the second. Justin Turner doubled to open the bottom half. Mike Nickeas popped out to shortstop Andy Parrino and an infield single by Dickey ensued. Mike Baxter went down on strikes and Kirk Nieuwenhuis flied out to center fielder Will Venable to finish off the inning. Dickey set down the side in order in the top of the third. Volquez then surrendered only a walk to Murphy in the bottom half.

Dickey retired all three batters in the top of the fourth. Volquez pitched a perfect bottom of the inning and R. A. set down the side 1-2-3 again in the top of the fifth. Baxter got a leadoff double in the bottom of the inning. Mike advanced to third base on a wild pitch and came home with the Mets' second run on catcher Hundley's passed ball. Nieuwenhuis was struck out and Wright grounded out to Parrino. Volquez got Duda on a fly ball to Venable to end the inning. Dickey shut down the Padres in the top of the sixth. Volquez and San Diego reliever Brad Brach then combined for a scoreless bottom half.

Dickey gave up only a double to Jesus Guzman in the top of the seventh. Brach hurled a perfect bottom of the inning and Hundley was hit by a pitch to open the top of the eighth. Dickey struck out Blake Tekotte and issued a walk to pinch-hitter Chris Denorfia. Mets' reliever Tim Byrdak got pinch-hitter Alexi Amarista on a line drive to center fielder Nieuwenhuis and fanned Venable to end the inning. The Padres' Andrew Cashner then retired the side in order in the bottom half.

Mets' reliever Frank Francisco got Everth Cabrera on a ground ball to first baseman Davis to start the top of the ninth. Alonso flied out to center fielder Andres Torres. Francisco then retired Guzman on a fly ball to right fielder Nieuwenhuis (who had shifted from center) to bring the game to an end. The Mets had a shutout victory to conclude the weekend series.
