The Mets faced the Nationals on a Thursday afternoon at Citi Field. The teams played the latter half of a two-game series. Dillon Gee and a pair of relievers teamed up for a three-hitter in a 1-0 Mets win over Washington.

Gee and the Nats' Livan Hernandez each started the game with three scoreless innings pitched. Dillon surrendered just a walk to Jayson Werth and faced the minimum nine batters while Hernandez held the Mets to singles by Jason Bay and Ruben Tejada. Gee set down the side in order in the top of the fourth. Josh Thole got a leadoff single in the bottom half. Carlos Beltran flied out to center fielder Roger Bernadina and a single by Bay followed. Daniel Murphy flied out to Bernadina and a single by Justin Turner drove home Thole for a one-run Mets lead. Jason Pridie drew a walk that loaded the bases. Hernandez then retired Tejada on a fly ball to right fielder Werth to end the inning.

Gee hurled a perfect top of the fifth. Hernandez set down the side in order in the bottom half and singled with two outs in the top of the sixth. Bernadina flied out to center fielder Pridie to finish off the inning and Hernandez yielded just a double to Bay in the bottom half. Dillon surrendered just a walk to Laynce Nix in the top of the seventh and Tejada got a one-out single in the bottom of the inning. Gee's sacrifice bunt sent Tejada to second base and Jose Reyes was walked intentionally. Hernandez then got Thole to ground out to second baseman Danny Espinosa and end the inning.

Ivan Rodriguez drew a walk against Gee with one out in the top of the eighth. Alex Cora singled and pinch-hitter Matt Stairs flied out to right fielder Beltran. Against Mets' reliever Tim Byrdak, pinch-hitter Mike Morse hit a force play ground ball to second baseman Tejada for the inning's third out. Murphy and Turner drew consecutive walks against Washington's Cole Kimball with two outs in the bottom half. Nats' reliever Sean Burnett then retired pinch-hitter Scott Hairston on a fly ball to left fielder Brian Bixler for the inning's final out.

Mets' reliever Francisco Rodriguez got Ian Desmond on a grounder to first baseman Murphy to start the top of the ninth. Nix doubled for the Nationals' third hit and advanced to third base on Werth's ground out to third baseman Turner. Rodriguez then retired Adam LaRoche on a ground ball to Tejada to bring the game to an end. The Mets had a shutout victory.
