The Mets and Orioles made a deal that included three pitchers in January of 2006. Kris Benson was sent to Baltimore in exchange for Jorge Julio and John Maine. Benson was a six-season major leaguer who had pitched in 39 games for the Mets over the previous two seasons. Julio had 11 wins and 24 losses in five seasons with the Orioles. Maine had a 6.60 earned run average in 11 games with the Baltimore team.

Julio appeared in 18 games as a reliever for the Mets in 2006. He had one win and one save with a 5.06 ERA. Jorge was dealt to the Diamondbacks in May of '06. Maine started 96 games for the Mets from 2006 to 2010. John compiled a 39-32 won-lost record with 542 innings pitched with the team. In 2007, John led the Mets with 15 wins and 180 strikeouts.

Benson pitched in 30 games as a starter for the Orioles in 2006. He had 11 wins, 12 losses and a 4.82 ERA for the season. Kris did not pitch in the major leagues for the next two years. In 2009, he signed with the Texas Rangers.
