Kevin Kobel for Randy McGilberry
Date: June 17, 1980
Team: Kansas City Royals
Sent: Kevin Kobel
Received: Randy McGilberry
The Mets and Royals made a deal of pitchers during the 1980 season. Lefthander Kevin Kobel was sent to Kansas City for minor league righthander Randy McGilberry. Kobel had six years of major league service with the Brewers and the Mets. McGilberry had pitched in 21 games for the Royals in 1977 and 1978.
Neither team gained anything from the trade. McGilberry finshed the rest of the '80 season with the Mets' AAA-level Tidewater team in Norfolk, Virginia to end his baseball career. Kobel pitched for the Royals' Omaha affiliate in '80 and never returned to the major leagues.
