The Mets and Cardinals made a trade of pitchers during the 1963 season. Ken MacKenzie was sent to the St. Louis team in exchange for Ed Bauta. MacKenzie was the Mets' only pitcher with a won-lost record (5-4) above the .500 mark in 1962 and won three of his four decisions for the team in '63. Bauta had six wins and four losses over four seasons with the Cardinals.

Bauta pitched in 17 games for the Mets in 1963 and 1964. He lost his only two decisions and had a 5.28 earned run average. Ed never appeared in the major leagues again.

MacKenzie made eight relief appearances for the Redbirds over the rest of the '63 season. He had a 4.00 ERA with no wins, losses or saves. Ken was traded to the Giants after the season.
