Pelfrey allowed the D'Backs four hits in eight scoreless innings. Leadoff singles in the first, second and seventh were left stranded and Orlando Hudson was left on base after his one-out double in the fourth. Pelfrey also recorded eight strikeouts of Arizona hitters.

The Mets scored three times against Diamondbacks' starter Brandon Webb in the bottom of the fourth. Jose Reyes and Luis Castillo crossed the plate on a single by Beltran, who later came home on Marlon Anderson's force play grounder. Pelfrey singled off Webb in the fifth before the Arizona bullpen kept the Mets hitless for the next three innings.

Stephen Drew singled off Pelfrey to begin the top of the ninth. Reliever Billy Wagner struck out two batters, but also gave up a double to Conor Jackson. Mark Reynolds then clouted a three-run homer to tie the game for the D'Backs. The Mets put two runners on base in the bottom of the inning, but failed to score against Arizona reliever Tony Pena.

The game remianed deadlocked through the end on the twelfth inning. In the 13th, the Diamondbacks got two singles off Met reliever Claudio Vargas with one out. Vargas then got Jackson to ground into a double play to end the inning.

Castillo reached first base on an error by third baseman Reynolds in the bottom of the thirteenth. With two out, Beltran homered off Arizona's Edgar Gonzalez to end the game. The crowd of 46,503 was sent home happy as the Mets had a thrilling victory to end a five-game losing streak.
