Santana surrendered only a walk to Ray Durham in the top of the fifth. San Francisco reliever Alex Hinshaw gave up just a walk to Jose Reyes in the bottom half and the Mets' Aaron Heilman hurled a perfect top of the sixth. Hinshaw and the Giants' Osiros Matos combined for a scoreless bottom of the inning and Heilman retired the side in order in the top of the seventh. Pinch-hitter Argenis Reyes got an infield single against San Francisco's Keiichi Yabu to open the bottom half. On his own hit, Argenis moved to second base via Yabu's error. Jose Reyes was struck out and Endy Chavez drew a walk. A wild pitch sent the runners to second and third before David Wright grounded out to third baseman Castillo. Carlos Beltran was walked intentionally to load the bases. Yabu then got Damion Easley to hit a force play ground ball to Castillo for the inning's third out.
Mets' reliever Duaner Sanchez set down all three batters in the top of the eighth. Delgado doubled against Yabu to begin the bottom half. Tatis lined out to right fielder Randy Winn and a pop-up by Castro was caught by Castillo. Argenis Reyes singled to drive home Delgado and moved to second base via an error by left fielder Fred Lewis. Jose Reyes hit a single that brought home Argenis Reyes with the Mets' fifth run of the game. Chavez singled and Giants' reliever Sergio Romo retired Wright on a fly ball to center fielder Aaron Rowand to close out the inning.
Mets' reliever Joe Smith got Bengie Molina on a grounder to third baseman Wright to start the top of the ninth. Rowand grounded out to Jose Reyes. Smith then struck out Aurilia to end the game. The Mets had a shutout victory.
