1957: New York attorney William A. Shea announces the formation of a third major league (known as the Continental League) to begin play in 1961. One of the charter teams for the new league would be placed in New York.
1962: The Mets and Cardinals split a doubleheader at St. Louis. Al Jackson pitches a shutout in a 1-0 Mets win in the opener. The Cards take the nightcap, 6-5.
1968: Don Cardwell and Ron Taylor combine on a six-hitter in a 5-2 Mets win over the Reds at Shea Stadium.
1971: Ed Kranepool and Duffy Dyer hit run-scoring singles in the ninth inning to give the Mets a 3-2 win over the Cardinals at Shea Stadium.
1972: The Mets and Pirates split a doubleheader in Pittsburgh. The Mets win the opener, 1-0, on Jon Matlack's 10-inning shutout. The Bucs take the nightcap, 7-5.
1975: The Mets and Cubs split a doubleheader at Wrigley Field. Chicago wins the opener, 4-2, and the Mets take the second game, 4-1, in 10 innings.
1976: Bob Myrick records his first win in the major leagues in a 4-1 Mets victory over the Phillies at Philadelphia. Myrick drives in the winning run in the game.
1977: The Mets defeat the Giants, 7-4, to finish off a two-game series sweep at San Francisco.
1984: The Mets increase their lead in the National League East Division to four and one-half games with a 2-1 win over the second-place Cubs at Shea Stadium.
1985: The Mets sweep a doubleheader with 16-4 and 7-3 wins over the Astros at Shea Stadium. All of the Mets' runs in the opener of the twinbill are unearned.
1986: The Mets hit three straight homers in the third inning in a 5-1 win over the Braves at Atlanta.
1991: Dwight Gooden and John Franco team up for a shutout in a 4-0 Mets win over the Padres at San Diego.
1993: Jeff Kent drives in all the Mets' runs with two homers in a 4-3 win over the Marlins at Shea Stadium.
1994: The Mets hit four home runs in a 7-4 win over the Cardinals at St. Louis. The victory completes a sweep of a three-game series.
2000: The Mets sweep a doubleheader with 9-8 and 4-3 wins over the Expos at Shea Stadium.
2008: The Mets defeat the Cardinals, 9-1, at Shea Stadium. Each one of the nine Mets players gets at least one hit for a game total of seventeen.
2009: Fernando Tatis hits a pinch-hit grand slam in the eighth inning to give the Mets a 7-3 win over the Rockies at Citi Field.
2014: Jacob deGrom and three relievers team up for a shutout in a 2-0 Mets win over the Brewers at Milwaukee. Lucas Duda homers to drive in the Mets runs.
