Mets’ starter Mike Pelfrey pitched a scoreless top of the first inning. Nick Evans singled against the Rockies’ Mark Redman with one out in the bottom half. David Wright drew a walk and Carlos Beltran homered for a 3-0 Mets lead. Redman retired the next two batters for the second and third outs and Pelfrey set down the side in order in the top of the second. With one out in the bottom of the inning, Ramon Castro singled and advanced to second base on Pelfrey’s sacrifice bunt. Jose Reyes hit a single to bring home Castro with the fourth New York run of the game. Evans singled to send Reyes to third and Redman got Wright to hit a force play ground ball to second baseman Omar Quintanilla that ended the inning.

Pelfrey yielded just a double to Quintanilla in the top of the third. Redman hurled a scoreless bottom half and Matt Holliday got a one-out single in the top of the fourth. Brad Hawpe singled to send Holliday to third base and Garrett Atkins hit a grounder to third baseman Wright for an inning-ending double play. Fernando Tatis singled against Redman to open the bottom half. Castro hit a single to advance Tatis to third and went to second on Pelfrey’s sacrifice bunt. Reyes was walked intentionally to load the bases and Evans hit a sacrifice fly against Colorado reliever Ryan Speier that plated Tatis for a 5-0 Mets lead. Speier then got Wright to ground out to third baseman Atkins and finish off the inning.

Pelfrey held the Rockies to a single by Joe Koshansky in the top of the fifth. Beltran singled to lead off the bottom half. Damion Easley hit a force play grounder to first baseman Koshansky and a two-run homer by Carlos Delgado ensued. Speier got Tatis to ground out to shortstop Clint Barmes and retired Castro on an inning-ending fly ball to left fielder Holliday. Pelfrey set down the side 1-2-3 in the top of the sixth and singled against Colorado’s Matt Herges to begin the bottom of the inning. Reyes hit a double play ground ball to Quintanilla. Herges then retired Evans on a line drive to Quintanilla for the inning’s final out.

Pelfrey retired all three batters in the top of the seventh. Rockies’ reliever Luis Vizcaino pitched a perfect bottom half and Yorvit Torrealba was hit by a pitch with one out in the top of the eighth. Quintanilla popped out to Wright and a single by pinch-hitter Jayson Nix followed. Pelfrey retired Scott Podsednik on a pop-up to Wright that ended the inning. Colorado’s Brian Fuentes then set down the side in order in the bottom half.

Mets’ reliever Joe Smith got Barmes on a ground ball to Wright to start the top of the ninth. Holliday grounded out to second baseman Easley and a single by Hawpe followed. Hawpe went to second base on defensive indifference. Smith then retired Atkins on a line drive to Wright for the final out of the game. The Mets had a victory and a sweep of the series.
