The Mets faced the Brewers on a Wednesday afternoon in Milwaukee. The teams played the finale of a three-game series. Mike Pelfrey hurled seven and two-thirds shutout innings in a 1-0 Mets win.
Pelfrey and the Brewers' Yovani Gallardo each pitched three-hit scoreless ball from the first inning to the fifth. Luis Castillo hit a double to lead off the top of the sixth. David Wright was called out on strikes and Ryan Church singled to drive home Castillo. With Nick Evans at bat, Church was caught stealing on catcher Jason Kendall's throw to second baseman Craig Counsell. Evans drew a walk and Gallardo retired Daniel Murphy on a fly ball to right fielder Corey Hart to end the inning. Pelfrey then yielded only a single to Counsell in the bottom half.
Gallardo set down the side in order in the top of the seventh. Pelfrey gave up only a single to Prince Fielder in the bottom of the inning and Milwaukee reliever Carlos Villanueva pitched a perfect top of the eighth. Pinch-hitter Frank Catalanotto hit a two-out single against Pelfrey in the bottom half. Counsell walked and Mets' reliever Sean Green got J. J. Hardy to hit an inning-ending force play ground ball to third baseman Wright. The Brewers' Chris Smith then retired all three batters in the top of the ninth.
Ryan Braun singled against Mets' reliever Francisco Rodriguez to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning. Fielder was retired on a line drive to shortstop Alex Cora. Hart followed with a ground out to catcher Brian Schneider. Rodriguez then got pinch-hitter Casey McGehee on a grounder to Cora for the game's final out. The Mets had a shutout victory.
