Just after the beginning of the 1992 season, the Mets made a trade with the California Angels. Pitchers Julio Valera and Julian Vasquez were dealt for infielder Dick Schofield. Valera had pitched in five games for the Mets over the two previous seasons. Vasquez had spent the previous six years in the Mets' minor league system. Schofield was a ten-year major league veteran who had been with the Angels' division-winning club of 1986.

In '92, Schofield batted .205 in 142 games for the Mets. He scored 52 runs and had 36 RBIs during his only year in New York. Dick joined the Toronto Blue Jays as a free agant in 1993.

Valera pitched in 49 games for the Angels in '92 and '93. He had an 11-17 won-lost record and a 4.37 earned run average with the California team. Vasquez never appeared in a major league game.
