Josh Thole was a catcher for the Mets from 2009 to 2012. He played in 308 games with the team. Thole had 239 hits and 87 runs batted in as a Met.

Thole had spent four seasons in the Mets’ minor league system before joining the parent club. In ’09, he had a .321 batting average in seventeen games. In his debut at Colorado on September 3, Josh had a single, a double and a stolen base in the Mets’ 8-3 win over the Rockies. He singled four times in as many at-bats and drove in a run in a 5-4 Mets defeat to the Phillies in a doubleheader opener at Philadelphia on September 13. Thole had a triple and a run-scoring single in a 5-1 Mets victory over the Astros on October 3 at Citi Field. One day later, he had two singles, a double and an RBI in the Mets’ season-closing 4-0 triumph over the Astros.

In 2010, Thole accumulated 74 total bases. He homers three times among his 56 hits on the season. Josh singled to drive in the Mets’ final run of a 3-0 win over the Braves at Citi Field on July 11. He slugged his first major league home run in a 3-2 Mets loss to the Diamondbacks at Arizona on July 20. Thole batted .375 (9-for-24) during a seven-game hitting streak from August 3 to August 14. He had a pair of run-scoring singles in a 7-2 Mets victory over the Pirates at Pittsburgh on August 20. Josh singled and homered in the Mets’ 5-1 triumph over the Astros on August 29 at Citi Field. He had a single, a double and three runs scored in an 18-5 Mets win over the Cubs on September 5 at Chicago. Thole also singled and hit a game-winning home run in the 10th inning in a 2-1 Mets victory over the Nationals at Citi Field on October 1.

Thole played in 114 games for the Mets in 2011. He had 17 doubles and three homers during the year. On April 2, Josh had three singles and a run batted in as the Mets defeated the Florida Marlins, 6-4, in 10 innings in Miami. He had a pair of RBI singles and a run scored in a 3-2 Mets win over the Braves in Atlanta on April 17. Thole had an RBI groundout and a two-run double in the Mets’ 6-4 triumph over the Nationals on April 26 at Washington. He singled twice, doubled and drove in three runs in a 9-5 Mets victory over the Phillies at Citi Field on May 29. Josh hit a single and a home run in the Mets’ 14-3 win over the Tigers on June 28 at Detroit. He had a pair of runs batted in with a double and a single in a 6-5 Mets triumph over the Cardinals in 10 innings at Citi Field on July 20. Thole singled, doubled and homered in an 11-7 Mets win over the Braves on August 6 at Citi Field. At San Diego on August 15, he had a homer and two singles in a 5-4 Mets victory over the Padres in 10 innings. Josh had three singles and three RBIs in the Mets’ 12-2 rout of the Braves in Atlanta on September 16. He also had a two-run single in a 6-3 Mets win over the Phillies in the second game of a doubleheader on September 24 at Citi Field.

In 2012, Thole had 75 hits for 93 total bases. He drove in 21 runs for the season. Josh had six hits in his first eleven at bats of the year from April 5 to April 10. He homered in a 6-5 Mets victory over the Rockies in 11 innings at Colorado on April 29. In his first game back after an injury, Thole was behind the plate for Johan Santana’s no-hitter as the Mets defeated the Cardinals, 8-0, on June 1 at Citi Field. He singled three times and scored twice in an 11-1 Mets win over the Phillies at Citi Field on July 3. Josh had two RBIs and a run scored in the Mets’ 6-2 triumph over the Padres at San Diego on August 4. He also singled, doubled and scored a run in a 4-3 Mets win over the Marlins on September 22 at Citi Field.

On December 17, 2012, Thole was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in a seven-player deal.
