The Mets and Padres made a trade between the 1991 and 1992 seasons. Infielder Jeff Gardner was sent to San Diego for lefthanded pitcher Steve Rosenberg. Gardner had six hits in 13 games for the Mets during the '91 season. The Brooklyn-born Rosenberg had previously pitched in 87 major league games with the White Sox and Padres over four seasons.

Rosenberg did not pitch in pro ball in '92. He ended his career in the minor leagues in 1993. Gardner batted .255 with one home run and 24 RBIs in 155 games for the Padres in '92 and '93.
