The Mets and Athletics made a three-pitcher deal in 1999. Jason Isringhausen and Greg McMichael were sent to Oakland in exchange for Billy Taylor. Isringhausen was unable to fulfill the high expectations that had been placed on him due to numerous injuries. He had an 18-21 won-lost record and an earned run average of 4.67 in four seasons with the team. McMichael was in his seventh major league season and had a 4.82 ERA for the Mets in '99. Taylor was a 37-year-old reliever in his fifth season of major league ball.

Taylor pitched in 18 games for the Mets in '99. He posted an 8.10 ERA and recorded neither a win nor a save with the team. Billy became a free agent and left the Mets after the season.

As a reliever, Isringhausen pitched in 151 games for the Athletics from 1999 to 2001. He recorded 75 saves with the Oakland team. McMichael pitched in 17 games without a win or a save for the Athletics in the '99 season. He then signed with the Cubs as a free agent.
