Team: Texas Rangers
Sent: George Stone
Received: Bill Hands

The Mets and Rangers made a deal of veteran pitchers in the winter before the 1976 season. Lefthander George Stone went to the Texas team in exchange for righthander Bill Hands. A nine-year major leaguer, Stone had a 12-3 won-lost record for the Mets in their pennant-winning 1973 season before being slowed down by injuries. Hands had 111 wins and 1128 strikeouts over 11 major league seasons.

Neither pitcher appeared in a game with his new team. Hands retired from baseball and Stone was released by the Rangers before the start of the '76 season.
