The Mets made a trade with the Diamondbacks during the 2006 season. To enhance their lineup for the pennant stretch, the team picked up outfielder Shawn Green from Arizona in exchange for pitcher Evan MacLane. For four years, MacLane had a 38-21 won-lost record in the Mets' minor league system. Green had 314 home runs in fourteen major league seasons.

Green played in 164 regular season games for the Mets in 2006 and 2007. He batted .284 and drove in 61 runs with the team. Shawn had 10 hits in 32 at-bats (.313) in the '06 post-season.

MacLane pitched in the Diamondbacks' minor league system until the end of the 2008 season. He was dealt to the Cardinals in April of 2009.
