In December of 2005, the Mets and Marlins pulled off their second trade of the off-season. Outfielder Dante Brinkley and pitcher Gaby Hernandez were sent to the Florida team for catcher Paul Lo Duca. During the '05 season, Brinkley and Hernandez played for the Mets' A-level team at St. Lucie. Lo Duca was an eight-year major leaguer who batted .283 for the Marlins in '05.
Lo Duca played in 243 games for the Mets in 2006 and 2007. He had 284 hits and drove in 103 runs in his two seasons with the team. In '06, Paul was a member of the National League All-Star team and had 5 hits in 11 at-bats (.455) in the Division Series against the Dodgers.
Neither Brinkley nor Hernandez ever played at the major league level. Dante spent three years in the Marlins' minor league system to conclude his playing career. Hernandez was a three-year Florida prospect before leaving the organization.
