Braden Looper

Braden Looper was a relief pitcher for the Mets in 2004 and 2005. He recorded 57 saves and six wins in his two seasons with the team. Looper posted a 3.22 earned run average as a Met.
In ’04, Looper joined the Mets as a free agent. At San Juan, Puerto Rico on April 11, he pitched a perfect ninth inning for a save in a 4-1 Mets win over the Montreal Expos. Braden chalked up two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth to get the save in the Mets’ 5-4 victory over the Rockies on May 22 at Shea Stadium. He fanned three batters in a pair of scoreless innings for the win in a 4-3 Mets triumph over the Tigers in 10 innings at Shea on June 19. Looper recorded saves in five consecutive appearances between June 29 and July 9. He hurled a scoreless ninth inning for a save in a 2-1 Mets win over the Astros on August 12 at Shea. Braden also retired the side in order for a save in the Mets’ 3-2 win over the Cubs at Shea on September 26.
Looper was again the Mets top reliever with 28 saves in ’05. He recorded 27 strikeouts during the year. At Shea on April 22, Braden pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning for a save in the Mets’ 3-1 victory over the Nationals. He chalked up seven saves in as many appearances from May 1 to May 17. Looper was the winning pitcher in a 5-3 Mets triumph over the Angels in 10 innings on June 11 at Shea. He hurled a scoreless inning in each of five straight appearances for saves between June 30 and July 7. Braden pitched two perfect innings and got the win in the Mets’ 3-1 victory over the Padres in 11 innings on July 19 at Shea. He fanned three batters in two scoreless innings pitched for the win in a 9-8 Mets triumph over the Brewers in 11 innings at Shea on August 2. Looper also hurled a perfect bottom of the ninth for a save in a 3-1 Mets win at Arizona on August 25.
From 2006 to 2008, Looper pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals. He concluded his career with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2009.
