Michael Cuddyer hit a single and Nolan Arenado went down on strikes. With Charlie Culberson at bat, Cuddyer was caught stealing on catcher Anthony Recker’s throw to second baseman Daniel Murphy. Gee then got Culberson to fly out to right fielder Marlon Byrd and end the inning.
Murphy singled to begin the bottom of the fourth. Byrd hit a single that sent Murphy to third base. Ike Davis drew a walk to load the bases and Wilmer Flores grounded out to shortstop Jonathan Herrera, driving home Murphy with the tying run. Recker hit a sacrifice fly that plated Byrd and put the Mets ahead. Omar Quintanilla was walked intentionally and Gee followed with a single. On the hit, Davis got caught between bases and was tagged by third baseman Arenado for the inning’s final out.
Gee set down the side in order in the top of the fifth. Manship hurled a perfect bottom half and Dillon gave up only a single to D. J. LeMahieu in the top of the sixth. Byrd drew a walk against Rockies’ reliever Jeff Francis to begin the bottom of the inning. Davis was called out on strikes and Flores flied out to center fielder Dickerson. Recker singled to advance Byrd to third base. Francis then retired Quintanilla on a fly ball to Dickerson to close out the inning.
Arenado hit a leadoff single in the top of the seventh. Culberson followed with a force play grounder to Murphy and a fly ball by Yorvit Torrealba was caught by left fielder Eric Young. Culberson stole second base and Gee retired Herrera on an inning-ending fly ball to center fielder Juan Lagares. With two outs in the bottom half, Lagares singled against Colorado reliever Josh Outman. Juan stole second and went to third on catcher Torrealba’s throwing error. Outman then got Murphy to ground out to second baseman LeMahieu and finish off the inning.
LeMahieu got a two-out single against Gee in the top of the eighth. Mets’ reliever Scott Rice issued a walk to pinch-hitter Troy Tulowitzki. New York’s David Aardsma retired Cuddyer on a fly ball to Young that ended the inning and the Rockies’ Matt Belisle pitched a perfect bottom half. Torrealba then grounded back to Hawkins for the final out of the game. The Mets had a victory and a three-game series sweep.
