The Mets faced the Marlins on a Friday night at Shea Stadium. The teams played the opener of a three-game series. Oliver Perez and Aaron Heilman combined for a two-hit shutout in a 3-0 Mets win over Florida.

Perez retired the side in order in the top of the first inning. Daniel Murphy singled against Marlins’ starter Ricky Nolasco with one out in the bottom half. David Wright followed with a home run to put the Mets ahead, 2-0. Carlos Delgado grounded out to first baseman Jorge Cantu. Nolasco then got Carlos Beltran on a fly ball to right fielder Jeremy Hermida for the third out.

Josh Willingham drew a walk to open the top of the second. Dan Uggla was called out on strikes and Wes Helms hit a double. Cody Ross walked to load the bases and John Baker hit a grounder on which third baseman Wright threw to catcher Brian Schneider for an out at home on Willingham. Nolasco was struck out to end the inning and set down all three Mets batters in the bottom half. Perez hurled a perfect top of the third and reached on an error by shortstop Hanley Ramirez to begin the bottom of the inning. Jose Reyes was retired on a fly ball to Hermida. Nolasco then got Murphy to hit a ground ball to second baseman Uggla for an inning-ending double play.

Perez retired the Fish 1-2-3 in the top of the fourth. With one out in the bottom half, Delgado homered to extend the Mets’ lead to three runs. Beltran grounded out to Uggla and a strikeout of Fernando Tatis ended the inning. Oliver struck out the side in order in the top of the fifth and Schneider got a one-out single in the bottom half. Perez went down on strikes and Jose Reyes was retired on an inning-ending ground ball to Uggla. Oliver gave up just a walk to Ramirez in the top of the sixth and Murphy singled to begin the bottom half. Wright followed with a force play grounder to Ramirez. Delgado was struck out and Beltran drew a walk. Nolasco then got Tatis to hit a force play ground ball to third baseman Helms and close out the inning.

Perez yielded only a double to Ross in the top of the seventh. Schneider got a one-out single against Nolasco in the bottom half. Argenis Reyes was called out on strikes and Jose Reyes singled to right field. Murphy drew a walk against Florida reliever Renyel Pinto to load the bases. Wright hit a force play grounder to Helms that ended the inning and Heilman retired the side in order in the top of the eighth. Pinto and the Marlins’ Justin Miller then teamed up for a perfect bottom half.

Cantu went down on strikes to open the top of the ninth. Willingham took a called third strike. Heilman then got Uggla to line out to center fielder Beltran and bring the game to an end. The Mets had a shutout victory on a two-hitter.
