Freddy Galvis singled with two outs in the top of the fifth. Eickhoff hit a single and Colon retired Odubel Herrera on a ground ball to third baseman David Wright to end the inning. With one out in the bottom half, Conforto slugged a solo home run. Wilmer Flores went down on strikes and Colon got a single. Granderson followed with a two-run homer for a 3-0 Mets lead. Eickhoff then got Yoenis Cespedes to fly out to left fielder Aaron Altherr and finish off the inning.

Philadelphia reliever Jeanmar Gomez then pitched a perfect bottom half.

Hernandez singled against Mets' reliever Jeurys Familia to lead off the top of the ninth. Altherr hit a single and Ryan Howard drew a walk to load the bases. Francoeur followed with a double play grounder to shortstop Flores on which Hernandez came home. Familia then struck out Andres Blanco to end the game. The Mets had a victory to start the series.
