The Mets faced the Braves on a Tuesday night in Atlanta. After two straight losses that dropped them to .500, the Mets looked to get above the break-even mark. They came up with a 3-2 win on a home run by Jeff Francoeur in the ninth inning.
In the bottom of the second, the Braves took a 1-0 lead against Mets' starter R. A. Dickey. With one out, Alex Gonzalez was hit by a pitch and advanced to third base on a single by Rick Ankiel. Gonzalez came in to score on Melky Cabrera's force play grounder that followed. The Mets then tied the game on Jose Reyes' double off Atlanta starter Derek Lowe that scored Luis Castillo in the top of the third.
Dickey and Lowe pitched scoreless ball in the fourth and fifth innings. In the top of the sixth, the Mets failed to score again. The Braves then went ahead, 2-1, on Cabrera's double that brought home Ankiel in the bottom of the inning.
Atlanta reliever Kyle Farnsworth walked Francoeur to lead off the top of the seventh. Francoeur moved to second on a ground out and Chris Carter came up to pinch-hit for Dickey. Carter singled to center field to score Francoeur and tie the game. Mets' reliever Pedro Feliciano then shut down the Braves in the bottom half.
Atlanta's Jonny Venters and the Mets' Manny Acosta each pitched a scoreless eighth inning. In the top of the ninth, Billy Wagner came in to pitch for the Braves. Francoeur greeted Wagner with a leadoff homer to put the Mets ahead by a run. Wagner then retired the next three batters to end the inning.
Francisco Rodriguez pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth inning to end the game. Francoeur's home run had given the Mets a victory. They raised their record to one game over the .500 mark on the season.
