Benson began the game with two scoreless innings. In the bottom of the second, Jason Phillips drew a one-out walk and Joe McEwing followed with a double. After Benson flied out, Danny Garcia hit a home run off Diamondbacks' starter Casey Fossum. The Mets had a 3-0 lead.
