Jonathon Niese and Phillies’ starter David Buchanan each pitched scoreless ball from the first inning to the third. Daniel Murphy doubled to lead off the top of the fourth. David Wright hit a single to drive home Murphy and consecutive strikeouts of Lucas Duda and Juan Lagares ensued. Buchanan retired den Dekker on a ground ball to second baseman Andres Blanco to end the inning and Carlos Ruiz drew a one-out walk in the bottom half. Darin Ruf hit a home run for a 2-1 Philadelphia lead. Niese then got Blanco to ground out to third baseman Wright and threw a called third strike past Cody Asche to finish off the inning.

Buchanan yielded only a single to Niese in the top of the fifth. Jonathon hurled a scoreless bottom half and Buchanan retired the Mets on three straight infield grounders in the top of the sixth. Niese shut down the Phillies in the bottom of the inning and Lagares drew a walk against Buchanan to open the top of the seventh. Den Dekker doubled to score Lagares and tie the game at 2-2. Wilmer Flores followed with a single against Phils’ reliever Justin De Fratus. Recker connected for a three-run homer to put the Mets ahead, 5-2. Niese grounded out to Blanco and a fly ball by Curtis Granderson was caught by center fielder Ben Revere. Murphy singled and De Fratus retired Wright on a ground ball to shortstop Jimmy Rollins for the inning’s final out.

Niese retired both Blanco and Asche on fly balls to center fielder Lagares to begin the bottom of the seventh. Pinch-hitter Domonic Brown hit a double to right field. Revere followed with a single on which Brown was out at home via a throw by Lagares to catcher Recker to end the inning. Philadelphia reliever Antonio Bastardo surrendered just a walk to den Dekker in the top of the eighth and Ryan Howard got a two-out single against the Mets’ Buddy Carlyle in the bottom half. New York’s Jeurys Familia then struck out Ruiz to end the inning.

Phillies’ reliever Cesar Jimenez pitched a perfect top of the ninth. Pinch-hitter Grady Sizemore went down on strikes to lead off the bottom half. Blanco grounded out to first baseman Duda and a walk to Asche followed. Pinch-hitter Chase Utley hit a double (overturned after being called a homer) to bring home Asche with the Phils’ third run. Familia then got Revere to fly out to Lagares and end the game. The Mets had a series-closing victory.
