1969: Nolan Ryan earns the first of his three career saves. The Mets defeat the Expos, 9-5.

1976: The Mets defeat the Expos, 3-2, in the season opener at Shea Stadium.

1977: Joe Torre hits a pinch-hit two-run double in the ninth inning to give the Mets an 8-6 win over the Cubs at Chicago.

1978: The Mets and Expos split a doubleheader at Shea Stadium. The Mets win the opener, 6-5, and Montreal takes the second game, 5-0.

1985: In his Mets debut, Gary Carter hits a home run in the 10th inning for a 6-5 win over the Cardinals on Opening Day at Shea Stadium.

1987: The Mets defeat the Pirates, 4-2, to conclude a two-game sweep of a season-opening series.

1989: Kevin Elster hits a run-scoring double in the ninth inning for a 2-1 Mets win over the Expos at Montreal.

1994: Bret Saberhagen pitches a complete game five-hitter in an 8-2 Mets win over the Astros at Houston.

1996: The Mets pound out twelve hits in a 12-5 win over the Reds at Cincinnati.

1999: Mike Piazza and Robin Ventura hit consecutive homers in the first inning to lead the Mets to a 10-3 win over the Expos at Montreal.

2001: Mike Piazza drives in five runs with two homers as the Mets defeat the Braves, 9-4, in the home opener at Shea Stadium.

2004: The Mets begin a three-game series in San Juan, Puerto Rico with a 3-2 win over the Montreal Expos. Todd Zeile drives in the winning run with a double in the top of the 11th inning.

2006: The Mets defeat the Marlins, 3-2, to complete a sweep of a three-game series at Shea Stadium. David Wright drives in all the Mets' runs with a triple and a sacrifice fly.

2007: In their first home game of the season, the Mets score seven runs in the eighth inning for an 11-5 win over the Phillies at Shea Stadium.

2008: The Mets score six runs in the third inning in an 8-2 win over the Phillies at Shea Stadium.

2010: The Mets defeat the Washington Nationals, 8-2, at Citi Field. Rod Barajas and Jeff Francoeur each hit two home runs and Ruben Tejada gets his first major league hit.

2011: Carlos Beltran hits two homers in an 8-4 Mets win over the Nationals at Citi Field.

2012: The Mets defeat the Nationals, 4-3, at Citi Field. Daniel Murphy drives in the winning run with a ninth-inning single and Kirk Nieuwenhuis hits his first major league home run.

2015: The Mets score four runs in the third inning and defeat the Nationals, 6-3, at Washington.
