The Mets faced the Marlins on a Monday night in Miami. The teams played the opener of a three-game series. Daniel Murphy hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning to give the Mets a 3-1 win.
Dillon Gee and the Marlins' Jarred Cosart each pitched scoreless ball from the first inning to the seventh. Gee held the Fish to three singles while Cosart surrendered a pair of walks to Lucas Duda and yielded singles to Wilmer Flores and Juan Lagares. Cosart set down the side in order in the top of the eighth. Pinch-hitter Justin Bour got a two-out single against Gee in the bottom half. Dee Gordon singled and a single by Martin Prado drove home pinch-runner Reid Brignac for a 1-0 Miami lead. Mets' reliever Carlos Torres then got Giancarlo Stanton to pop out to first baseman Duda and end the inning.
Lagares doubled against Marlins' reliever Steve Cishek to lead off the top of the ninth. Duda drew his third walk of the game and Michael Cuddyer flied out to right fielder Stanton. Murphy came to bat and connected for a home run that put the Mets ahead. Eric Campbell hit a double and stole third base. Cishek then struck out both Flores and Kevin Plawecki to finish off the inning.
Mets' reliever Jeurys Familia fanned Marcell Ozuna to open the bottom of the ninth. Mike Morse grounded out to second baseman Murphy. Familia then got J. T. Realmuto to ground out to shortstop Flores and bring the game to an end. The Mets had a victory with a late comeback.
