Mets' reliever Aaron Heilman retired the side in order in the top of the eighth inning and the Rockies' Manuel Corpas did the same in the bottom half. Billy Wagner got Todd Helton for a double play that ended the top of the ninth. Corpas then shut down the Mets for the second straight time in the bottom of the inning.

Yorvit Torrealba doubled with two out in the top of the tenth inning. Wagner's wild pitch advanced pinch-runner Willy Taveras to third base. An ensuing triple by Troy Tulowitzki scored Taveras to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead. Wagner then struck out pinch-hitter Chris Iannetta to end the inning.

Colorado reliever Brian Fuentes retired the first two Met batters in the bottom of the tenth inning. Easley came to bat as a pinch-hitter for Wagner. Damion clouted a home run to tie the game for the Mets. Fuentes then retired Jose Reyes for the third out.

In the 11th, Scott Schoeneweis shut down the Rockies with a 1-2-3 inning. The Mets had two runners on base in the bottom half, but failed to score a run. Schoeneweis and reliever Joe Smith then combined to pitch a perfect top of the 12th.

Shawn Green began the bottom of the 12th inning with a walk from the Rockies' Ryan Speier. Green moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt and advanced to third on Speier's balk. Reyes was intentionally walked and Chavez stepped up to the plate. Endy laid down a bunt for a single that scored Green with the winning run. The Mets had an exciting win that featured two key hits in extra innings.
