Pinch-hitter Endy Chavez grounded out to first baseman Ryan Howard and a home run by Reyes increased the Mets’ lead to 4-0. Church was retired on an inning-ending grounder to Utley, who hit a solo homer against New York’s Scott Schoeneweis with two outs in the bottom half. Schoeneweis then struck out Howard to finish off the inning.

Heilman then struck out both pinch-hitter Geoff Jenkins and Jayson Werth to end the inning.
Phillies’ reliever Chad Durbin hurled a scoreless top of the ninth. The Mets’ Billy Wagner got Utley on a fly ball to center fielder Beltran to open the bottom half. Howard was retired on a pop-up to second baseman Castillo. Wagner then fanned Burrell for the game’s final out. The Mets had a solid victory.
