David Wright drew a walk and Jason Bay hit a single to bring home Castillo with the first run of the game. Jeff Francoeur followed with a double play grounder to shortstop Troy Tulowitzki that ended the inning and Pelfrey retired the side in order in the bottom half. De La Rosa set down all three Mets batters in the top of the second and Tulowitzki singled to open the bottom of the inning. Ian Stewart was retired on a line drive to center fielder Angel Pagan. With Miguel Olivo at bat, Tulowitzki was caught stealing on catcher Henry Blanco’s throw to second baseman Castillo. Pelfrey then struck out Olivo to finish off the inning.
To begin the top of the third, Pelfrey walked and moved to second base on a wild pitch. Jose Reyes hit a single to advance Pelfrey to third base. Castillo reached on third baseman Stewart’s error that allowed Pelfrey to score for a 2-0 Mets lead. With Wright at the plate, both Castillo and Reyes were caught stealing. De La Rosa followed up with a strikeout of Wright to end the inning. Pelfrey then held the Rockies to a single by Melvin Mora in the bottom half.
Bay drew a leadoff walk in the top of the fourth. Francoeur singled to send Bay to third base and went to second on a throw. Fernando Tatis walked to load the bases and Blanco flied out to left fielder Seth Smith. Pagan hit a force play ground ball to Tulowitzki to drive home Bay. Pelfrey singled to score Francoeur and increase the Mets’ lead to 4-0. De La Rosa retired Reyes on a line drive to right fielder Ryan Spilborghs for the inning’s third out. Pelfrey then pitched a perfect bottom half.
Castillo doubled to begin the top of the fifth. Wright drew a walk and Bay went down on strikes. Francoeur got an infield single to load the bases and Tatis was struck out. With Blanco at bat, Castillo came home on a wild pitch to extend the Mets’ lead to five runs. De La Rosa retired Blanco on an inning-ending fly ball to Spilborghs and Olivo got a one-out single in the bottom half. Spilborghs lined out to right fielder Francoeur and a balk advanced Olivo to second base. Pelfrey then got Mora to ground out to third baseman Wright and finish off the inning.
De La Rosa gave up only a double to Reyes in the top of the sixth. Pelfrey yielded just a single to Smith in the bottom half and Colorado reliever Esmil Rogers hurled a scoreless top of the seventh. Tulowitzki singled for the Rockies’ fifth hit to lead off the bottom of the inning. Stewart lined out to Pagan and a strikeout of Olivo ensued. Pelfrey retired Spilborghs on a fly ball to Francoeur that ended the inning and Rogers hurled a perfect top of the eighth. Mets’ reliever Pedro Feliciano then pitched a scoreless bottom half.
Colorado reliever Matt Belisle retired the side in order in the top of the ninth. The Mets’ Francisco Rodriguez got Dexter Fowler on a fly ball to Francoeur to open the bottom of the inning.
