1970: Tom Seaver and Al Weis combine for five RBIs in a 6-4 Mets win over the Cardinals at St. Louis.

1973: The Mets win their fourth consecutive game to start the season with a 2-1 victory over the Cardinals at St. Louis.

1977: Tom Seaver pitches a five-hit shutout against the Cardinals in the Mets' home opener for a 4-0 win. John Milner and John Stearns hit home runs in the game.

1979: Pat Zachry pitches a twelve-hit complete game in a 3-2 Mets win over the Phillies at Shea Stadium.

1981: The Mets defeat the Cubs, 2-1, at Wrigley Field. Mike Cubbage's sacrifice fly scores Hubie Brooks with the winning run in the ninth inning. Starting pitcher Tim Leary, in his major league debut, leaves the game after two innings with an elbow injury.
