1962: The Mets lose to the Cardinals, 11-4, at St. Louis in their first regular season game. Richie Ashburn flies out in the Mets' first at bat. Gus Bell gets the Mets' first hit. Gil Hodges hits the Mets' first home run.

1968: Jerry Koosman pitches his first major league shutout as the Mets defeat the Dodgers, 4-0, at Los Angeles.

1970: Gary Gentry and Ron Taylor combine for a four-hitter in a 4-1 Mets win over the Cardinals at St. Louis.

1971: Jerry Grote hits a home run in the 11th inning to give the Mets a 1-0 win over the Reds at Shea Stadium.

1973: The Mets defeat the Cardinals, 5-4, for their third straight win to start the season.

1982: The Mets come from behind for a 5-4 win over the Cubs at Chicago.

1984: The Mets win their sixth consecutive game with a 6-1 victory over the Braves in Atlanta. Walt Terrell and Doug Sisk combine for a five-hitter and John Gibbons records the first of his two career major league RBIs.

1985: Roger McDowell gets the win in his major league debut as the Mets defeat the Cardinals, 2-1, in 11 innings at Shea Stadium.

1986: Pitching in relief, Bob Ojeda records his first win as a Met in the team's 9-7 victory over the Phillies at Philadelphia.

1990: The Mets defeat the Pirates, 3-0, at Shea Stadium. John Franco records his first save as a Met.

1991: On his 27th birthday, Wally Whitehurst is the winning pitcher in a 6-3 Mets victory over the Expos at Shea Stadium. It is Whitehurst's first major league win as a starter.

1998: Rey Ordonez hits a run-scoring single in the ninth inning for a 2-1 Mets win over the Brewers at Milwaukee.

1999: The Mets end a four-game series with a 6-3 win over the Expos at Montreal.

2002: The Mets conclude a three-game series at Chicago with a 3-2 win over the Cubs.

2004: The Mets complete a three-game series in San Juan, Puerto Rico with a 4-1 win over the Montreal Expos.

2005: The Mets defeat the Astros, 8-4, in the home opener at Shea Stadium.

2006: Brian Bannister records his first major league win in a 7-1 Mets victory over the Nationals at Washington.

2008: Nelson Figueroa and three relievers team up for a two-hitter in a 4-2 Mets win over the Brewers at Shea Stadium.

2009: The Mets collect a total of fifteen hits in an 8-4 win over the Florida Marlins in Miami. Livan Hernandez records the win in his first game as a Met.
