Eaton then got Damion Easley on a ground ball to shortstop Eric Bruntlett for an inning-ending force play.
Maine and Eaton each pitched a perfect fifth. In the top of the sixth, Utley got a two-out single and walks to Ryan Howard and Pat Burrell loaded the bases for the Phils. Maine got Geoff Jenkins to hit a grounder to first baseman Delgado for a force play that ended the inning. Eaton fanned Delgado for the second out of the inning. With Church at bat, Beltran was caught stealing on a throw by catcher Chris Coste to Utley for the third out.
Leading off the top of the seventh, Pedro Feliz homered for the first Philadelphia run. Coste hit a double and Mets’ reliever Pedro Feliciano walked pinch-hitter Jayson Werth. Feliciano struck out the next three batters and the Phillies’ Ryan Madson pitched a scoreless bottom of the inning. Howard hit a home run off reliever Aaron Heilman to begin the top of the eighth. Burrell drew a walk and Jenkins singled to send pinch-runner So Taguchi to third base. Feliz’s ensuing ground out to third baseman Wright plated Taguchi with the tying run. Heilman struck out Coste and got Werth on an inning-ending ground ball to Delgado. Philadelphia reliever J. C. Romero then shut down the Mets in the bottom half.
Mets’ reliever Billy Wagner and the Phillies’ Brad Lidge pitched a scoreless ninth inning. In the 10th, the Mets’ Joe Smith and the Phils’ Rudy Seanez each retired the side without a run. Philadelphia’s Tom Gordon pitched a perfect bottom half. Jenkins reached on an error by Easley with two outs in the top of the 12th. Mets’ reliever Jorge Sosa then got Feliz to hit a force play grounder to Wright for the third out of the inning.
Gordon retired Brian Schneider on a pop-up to Utley to start the bottom of the 12th. Brady Clark grounded out to third baseman Feliz. Jose Reyes followed with a double to center field. Pagan hit a single that drove home Reyes to end the game. The Mets had concluded their first home series of the season with an extra-inning victory.
