Wayne Twitchell was a pitcher for the Mets in 1979. He appeared in 33 games with the team. Twitchell had five wins and 44 strikeouts as a Met.
Twitchell joined the Mets as a free agent at the start of the '79 season. At Shea Stadium on June 11, he pitched five and one-third shutout innings with four strikeouts and hit a single in getting the win in a 3-2 Mets victory over the Reds. Wayne was the winning pitcher in a 12-9 Mets triumph at Pittsburgh on June 27. At Chicago on June 30, he pitched two scoreless innings and got the win in the Mets' 9-8 victory over the Cubs in 11 innings. Twitchell got the win in a 6-5 Mets victory in 12 innings at San Francisco on July 24. He also pitched four and two-thirds innings for the win in the Mets' 2-1 triumph at Pittsburgh on July 31.
On August 19, 1979, Twitchell was sold to the Seattle Mariners. He appeared in four games for the Mariners over the rest of the '79 season to conclude his 10-year career.
