Ty Wigginton

Ty Wigginton was an infielder for the Mets from 2002 to 2004. He played in 288 games with the team. Wigginton had 270 hits and 131 runs batted in as a Met.
Wigginton joined the Mets during the ’02 season. He batted .3-2 in 46 games played for the year. At Shea Stadium on August 4, Ty singled twice and hit his first major league double and homer in a 12-7 Mets loss to the Diamondbacks. He had three singles and a stolen base in a 5-1 Mets win at Milwaukee on August 6. Wigginton hit a home run in the Mets’ 11-3 victory over the Marlins on September 4 at Shea. He doubled, homered and drove in three runs in an 11-3 Mets triumph at Philadelphia on September 8. Ty also hit a pair of doubles and drove in two runs in the Mets’ season-closing 6-1 win over the Braves at Shea on September 29.
In 2003, Wigginton led the Mets with 146 hits and 73 runs scored. He also had a team-high 227 total bases for the season. Ty singled, doubled and hit a three-run homer in the Mets’ 4-2 win at Florida on April 8. He had two singles, two doubles and two RBIs in a 9-3 Mets victory at Milwaukee on May 2. At Texas on June 12, Wigginton had a pair of singles, two doubles and three runs batted in as the Mets defeated the Rangers, 11-0. He singled and hit a two-run double in a 7-5 Mets triumph at Philadelphia on July 22. Ty hit a three-run homer in the Mets’ 5-1 win at San Diego on August 21. He also had three singles, a double and two RBIs in a 5-4 Mets loss at Philadelphia in 11 innings on September 7.
Wigginton had 23 doubles and 12 homers for the Mets in 2004. He hit .285 with the team during the year. At Atlanta on April 8, Ty had two singles, a home run and four RBIs in a 10-8 Mets defeat to the Braves. He had four singles and a double in the Mets’ 12-8 loss at Arizona on May 10. Wigginton singled twice and hit a two-run double in the Mets’ 7-2 victory over the Indians on June 15 at Shea. He had a single, two homers and three RBIs in a 6-5 Mets win over the Yankees at Shea on July 4. Ty drove in the winning run with an 11th inning single to give the Mets a 3-2 victory over the Phillies on July 15 at Shea. He also singled three times and drove in a run in the Mets’ 4-2 win at Montreal on July 27.
On July 30, 2004, Wigginton was traded to the Pirates. He played with the Pittsburgh team until the end of the 2005 season. Ty spent the next five years with the Devil Rays, Astros and Orioles. He joined the Rockies in 2011.
