Tucker Ashford was an infielder for the Mets in 1983. He played in 35 games and had a .179 batting average. Ashford split time between second base and third base and played one inning as a catcher.

Ashford played for the Padres, Rangers and Yankees before joining the Mets. He made his debut with the team as the starting third baseman in a 7-4 win over the Reds at Shea Stadium on May 6. At San Diego on May 28, Tucker got a run-scoring triple in the Mets' 5-4 loss to the Padres. Ashford's only other RBI as a Met came on a bases-loaded walk at Cincinnati on July 23.

On April 1, 1984, Ashford was traded to the Kansas City Royals for pitcher Tom Edens. He played nine games for the Royals in '84 to end his career as a player.

Tucker was the manager for the Mets' minor league affiliates in Kingsport (1985), Columbia (1986) and Jackson (1987 & 1988.) In '86, Ashford's Columbia team had a 90-42 won-lost record and won the championship of the South Atlantic League.
