Tsuyoshi Shinjo

Tsuyoshi Shinjo was an outfielder for the Mets in 2001 and 2003. He played in 185 games with the team. Shinjo had 129 hits for 190 total bases as a Met.

Shinjo joined the Mets after ten seasons with the Hanshin Tigers of Japan. In '01, he had 10 home runs and 56 runs batted in during the season. In his first game with the team on April 3, Tsuyoshi singled and scored two runs in the Mets' 6-4 victory in 10 innings in the season opener at Atlanta. He had a single and a home run in a 5-1 Mets win over the Reds at Shea Stadium on April 22. Shinjo singled home the winning run in the ninth inning to give the Mets a 6-5 triumph over the Dodgers on May 20 at Shea. He had two singles, a double and two RBIs in the Mets' 10-3 win at Baltimore on June 12. Tsuyoshi hit a game-winning double in the 11th inning for a 4-3 Mets victory over the Marlins on July 18 at Shea. He had three singles, a double and a run scored in the Mets' 6-3 triumph at Philadelphia on July 21. Shinjo also singled, tripled, and hit a three-run homer in a 6-2 Mets win over the Phillies on August 30 at Shea.

In 2002, Shinjo played for the San Francisco Giants. He returned to the Mets as a free agent in '03. At Florida on April 8, Tsuyoshi had three singles and a sacrifice fly in a 4-2 Mets win over the Marlins. He singled twice and scored a run in the Mets' 9-3 victory at Milwaukee on May 2. Shinjo had two singles, a double and a run scored in the Mets' 3-2 triumph over the Dodgers on May 6 at Shea. He singled and homered in a 5-4 Mets victory over the Phillies at Shea on May 21. Tsuyoshi also had a two-run double and a run scored in the Mets' 4-2 win over the Braves on May 31 at Shea.

Shinjo returned to his native Japan after the '03 season. He played three seasons with the Nippon Ham Fighters to conclude his career.
