Tony Phillips was an outfielder for the Mets in 1998. He played in 52 games with the team. Phillips had 42 hits and 25 runs scored as a Met.
During his seventeenth major league season, Phillips came to the Mets in a trade with the Blue Jays in '98. He singled, doubled and scored twice in a 9-3 Mets win over the Dodgers at Shea Stadium on August 2. Tony had two singles, a double nad a home run in the Mets' 9-8 victory over the Giants at Shea on August 6. He had two singles and the game-winning RBI in a 3-2 Mets triumph at Arizona on August 14. Phillips walked four times and scored a run in the Mets' 5-4 win in 10 innings at Los Angeles on August 28. He hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to give the Mets a 5-4 victory over the Braves on September 5 at Shea. Tony also singled, homered and walked twice in the Mets' 8-7 win over the Braves at Shea on September 7.
In 1999, Phillips concluded his major league career with the Oakland Athletics.
