The Mets and White Sox made a deal of minor leaguers in 1988. The team sent infielder Steve Springer and pitcher Tom McCarthy to the Chicago organization for first baseman Mike Maksudian and outfielder Vince Harris. Springer and McCarthy were prospects with the Mets' AAA-level Tidewater team in Norfolk, Virginia. Maksudian and Harris were A-level players.
Makdusian was released by the Mets before the 1989 season. He was later signed by the Toronto Blue Jays. Harris never played in the major leagues.
Springer played the '89 season in the Sox' minor league system before joining the Cleveland Indians. McCarthy appeared in 37 games with the Sox in '88 and '89 for his final major league experience.
