Tom Hausman was a pitcher for the Mets from 1978 to 1982. He pitched 322 innings in 125 games with the team. Hausman had 12 wins and a 3.66 earned run average as a Met.

After two seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, Hausman signed with the Mets as a free agent. In '78, he had a 3-3 won-lost record in 10 starts. Tom recorded his first major league win and had a run-scoring single in a 7-4 Mets victory at Atlanta in a doubleheader nightcap on July 17. He pitched eight shutout innings for a win in the Mets' 2-0 triumph over the Braves on July 22 at Shea Stadium. Hausman was also the winning pitcher in an 8-5 Mets victory at Los Angeles on September 3.

Hausman served as a starter and a reliever for the Mets in 1979. He posted a 2.75 ERA for the season. At Shea on July 8, Tom pitched three and one-third innings of scoreless ball for his first major league save in the Mets' 4-1 win over the Padres in the second game of a doubleheader. He had a complete game six-hitter for a win in a 3-2 Mets triumph over the Giants on July 14 at Shea. Hausman entered the 12th inning with two runners on base and retired all three batters for a save in the Mets' 6-5 win at San Francisco on July 24. He also pitched eight innings and got the win in an 8-3 Mets victory at Chicago on September 26.

In 1980, Hausman pitched in a career-high 55 games. He had six wins, one save and 53 strikeouts during the year. Tom had five shutout innings of relief to pick up the win in a 5-4 Mets triumph over the Dodgers at Shea on May 10. He pitched three innings of scoreless and hitless relief for a save in a 3-2 Mets win at Philadelphia on June 27. Tom was the winning pitcher in the Mets' 7-2 victory over the Expos on July 3 at Shea. He pitched three shutout innings for the win in a 5-3 Mets victory at Pittsburgh on August 13. Hausman also got the win in a 9-5 Mets triumph at San Francisco on August 30.

Hausman made 20 relief appearances in 1981. He posted a 2.18 ERA before the players strike began. After play resumed, Tom suffered an injured right elbow and missed the second half of the season.

In 1982, Hausman had 36 and two-thirds innings pitched for the Mets. He recorded a win and 16 strikeouts for the season. Tom's only win of the year came in an 8-5 Mets victory at St. Louis on June 19.

On September 10, 1982, Hausman was traded to the Braves in exchange for Carlos Diaz. He appeared in three games for the Atlanta team en route to its National League West Division title. Tom continued to pitch in the minor leagues until the end of his career in 1985.
