Tom Burgess

Tom Burgess was a coach for the Mets in 1977. He served under Joe Frazier and Joe Torre in his only year of the team's staff.
As a player, Burgess batted .291 with 200 home runs over 14 minor league seasons. He also spent time in the major leagues with the Cardinals in 1954 and the Angels in 1962. Tom was a manager in the Cardinals' system from 1969 to 1975. He also managed the Mets' AAA-level Tidewater team in Norfolk, Virginia in 1976 before joining the coaching staff of the parent club.
After leaving the Mets, Burgess joined the Atlanta Braves' coaching staff in 1978. He then returned to minor league managing, leading affiliates for the Braves, Rangers and Tigers from 1979 to 1987. Tom managed a total of 2,019 games in 17 minor league seasons.
Burgess died on November 24, 2008 at the age of 81.
