Timo Perez was an outfielder for the Mets from 2000 to 2003. He played in 372 games with the team. Perez had 297 hits for 428 total bases as a Met.
After four years in Japan, Perez joined the Mets in 2000. In his first major league at bat on September 1, he singled in the team’s 6-5 loss at St. Louis. Timo hit his first major league home run in a 3-2 Mets victory at Philadelphia on September 24. He also had a nine-game hitting streak during the post-season.
In 2001, Perez appeared in 85 games for the Mets. He had 26 runs scored and 22 RBIs during the season. At Shea Stadium on April 30, Timo singled and scored twich each in an 8-2 Mets win over the Astros. He had a game-winning single in the 10th inning for a 4-3 Mets triumph over the Marlins on May 25 at Shea. Perez had two singles, a double and a triple in the Mets’ 10-3 victory at Baltimore on June 12. He homered in a 5-2 Mets win at Florida on September 6. Timo also had a pair of singles and scored twice in a 4-0 Mets victory over the Expos on October 6 at Shea.
Perez led the Mets with 27 doubles and six triples in 2002. He had eight homers and drove in 47 runs for the year. Timo hit safely in seven consecutive games played between May 5 and May 16. He had an RBI single and a home run in a 3-1 Mets win over the White Sox at Chicago on June 10. One day later, Perez collected three singles and a double in the Mets 10-8 defeat to the Sox. He singled twice and doubled in a 5-4 Mets victory over the Royals on June 23 at Shea. Timo had three singles and a pair of runs scored in the Mets’ 12-6 triumph at Philadelphia on July 2. He singled, tripled twice and drove in three runs in a 9-0 Mets win at Milwaukee on August 8. Perez also had a two-run single and a run-scoring double in a 7-2 Mets victory at Philadelphia on September 6.
In 2003, Perez had 21 doubles among 93 hits. He had a team-high nine sacrifice flies during the year. At Shea on May 11, Timo had two singles and an RBI in the Mets’ 3-2 win over the Padres. He singled, homered and hit a sacrifice fly in a 7-3 Mets victory at Anaheim on June 13. Perez drove in three runs with a single, double and homer in the Mets’ 7-5 triumph at Cincinnati on July 6. He drove in four runs in a 13-4 Mets win over the Rockies on August 16 at Shea. Timo had a homer and a sacrifice fly in the Mets’ 9-3 victory over the Braves at Shea on September 3. He also doubled twice and had a two-run single in a 5-3 Mets win over the Pirates on September 24 at Shea.
Perez was traded to the White Sox in 2004. He spent two years in Chicago, the second of which produced in a World Championship for the Sox. Timo played for the Cardinals and Tigers over the next two seasons. He then played for minor and independent league teams.
